Matara Kitalagama Siri Seelalankara Nayaka Thero The First Chief Incumbent of Dimbulagala Forest Monastery.
Matara, Kitalagama, Dalugoda Hene Gedera Hevadulige Liyonis, was the father of Sri Seelalankara Nayaka Thero and Sainahami Gallage was the mother. On May 26, 1924, who was born with the name of Charlis, received his basic education from Kitalagama Nagarukkharama public school and later improved his morals by listening to the teachings of Most Venerable Kitalagama Pannajothi the head of Gangodawila Pannodayaramaya. H.D. Charlis because of his desire to become a monk, went to Most Venerable Udupillegoda Pannalankara Nahimi, who worked as the chief incumbent of Matara Akuresssa Wilpita Forest Monastery, and was ordained as Kitalagama Seelalankara as his student. Reverend Seelalankara Thero, who was ordained at Badulla Sri Pannalankara Viharaya on 12th January 1954 and returned to Polonnaruwa, built the Manampitiya Sri Bodhirukkaramaya and since then Nayaka Thero who has been engaged in various religious and national activities in the year 1965. Nayaka Thero leading task force The congregation received Upasampada at the Maharagama Sri Pannananda Piriwen Temple. Later, Matara Kitalagama Sri Seelalankara Nayaka Thero who visited the historic Dimbulagala Forest Monastery together with the existing government built the Maduru Oya Reservoir and provided the opportunity for 25,000 farming families to cultivate rice in Yala and Maha Seasons. During the 1978 cyclone, Dimbulagala Nayaka Thero, also known as Matara Kitalagama Siri Seelalankara Thero, broke down the Manampitiya Cooperative and provided dry ration aid to the refugees in the area, as well as to those affected by floods and cyclones.
They pioneered the construction of schools, temples and villages, creating five Pirivenas affiliated to the Dimbulagala Forest Monastery and nearly 115 Buddhist temples. At a time when he was doing a great service to the country, nation, and religion, on May 26, 1995, Nayaka Thero died in a terrorist attack at 7 in the morning while traveling in a cab with Mr. Anton and Mr. Bauddhasara to the farm of Dimbulagala Forest Monastery located in Manikeela area.
